As I was growing up I heard various phrases about jobs, money and how to be generally financially successful in life. These phrases all came from primarily my parents, friends, teachers and television and social media. One of the primary phrases that was beaten into my head by my father was, “any job you’ve got to just be thankful that you’ve got a job!” I heard this phrase over and over and over again, as a matter of fact I think I heard this phrase thousands of times while I was growing up. I’m not gonna say that my father was wrong with this advice but I’m going to say that there is more than one way to skin a cat. And what I found in my life is that the most important thing is that whatever you’re doing be happy doing it. And I’m not, so this is where my journey begins with gosh, golly keepers I want to quit my job so bad because I just want to be happy and have a ton of fun so let’s get this boat rolling. My name is Sean, and you can definitely say that I want to quit my job!
A Step Back In Time
I wasn’t very close with my parents while I was growing up and to be quite honest with you my father isn’t my role model and I know probably a lot of folks think that’s sad and I’m sure our relationship missed out on quite a few things but you don’t miss what you don’t know exists and I know my parents did the best they could and so did I because I’m a turning lemon into lemonade type of guy.
So if I wasn’t’ going to find my role model from the two people who brought me into this world, well I decided to look elsewhere and I did. I found this show, maybe some of you heard of it. It’s called Star Trek, the original series. I would watch it after school and I watched this guy named Captain James T Kirk command this incredible ship with these incredible people under his command and no matter what situation he, his crew and his ship got into, Captain James T Kirk and crew always found a way out. That impressed the hell out of me so Captain James T Kirk became a role model to me.
Henceforth, I don’t believe in the no-win scenario, as a matter fact I believe that if you just look around you’ll find thousands of other avenues that will get you from point A to point B but you just have to look. And the only way you fail, is you quit. Quitting is the only pure truth for failure, well that and the big dirt nap which is also called end game here on earth.
At Age 18 I Saw Something That Moved Me
I was not a particularly big fan of the saying “any job you’ve got to just be thankful you’ve got a job” but programming is programming so for the greater portion of my life I’ve had a (Just Over Broke) job. When I was 18 I was dating this girl and her step mom had her own business that she ran out of her house and it was a day care business.
She was licensed for 12 children and she charged $85 per child per week. She had helpers, which were her kids and I did the math really fast on this. 12 children times $85 times 52 weeks divided by 12 months equals $4,420 per month. That’s a lot more money than I’ve ever made as a dishwasher or cashier are selling clothes at a fashion store and definitely more than delivering furniture. Best of all she was her own boss. There was no one there to give her criticism or deadlines or praise or any of the fun things that come along with working for somebody else. And this appealed to me tremendously.
So I asked the fundamental question. Could this be duplicated and could we do it? And the answer was absolutely. So for 8 years we ran a profitable and successful business from home and I loved it. (Almost all of it) There was a few drawbacks. The most amount of children that you can get a license for was 12 so that was a cap on the income plus we were open from 6 AM to 6 PM five days a week and I always had to be there every day to work the business which meant limitations on life.
So Why do I Want To Quit My Job So Bad
When the daycare went away and so did my partner I ended up back in a very dead end job that I’ve had for just a little over 14 years and I get down on myself that I’ve listened to that little voice deep in the back of my head that says “any job you’ve got, just be thankful you’ve got a job.” I hate that because I work at a gas/convenience store and have done this for just over 14 years and deep in my heart there is this other little voice which has been growing much louder over the years saying “Dude, you’re so much more than this and can be so much more than you’re being! So just get fracking moving and let’s get this ship out of here!” Now I’m betting that some of you have a voice very similar to mine saying probably almost the exact same thing, in the various version, you get my point.
So I Heard of This Thing Called THE INTERNET
In the late part of 2008, tough year for most, I found myself looking at tons of different avenues to make my millions and low and behold I found the internet and of course I heard that there is some possibility of making money on it and even some had the audacious claim that you could make a living on the internet and a few (majority of gurus) claimed that Millions could be made on the internet in a day or so (these gurus had many shiny toys to play with at a $$).
Long story short I found Wealthy Affiliate and became a member in July 2009 and I was off to the races like the Flash of red streaking into action to flush my dead end job. OK, now for the truth. I joined in July 2009 and did absolutely nothing that would lead to an abundant bank account but I did log in and take a walk about the park and read a view things here and there. I’ve done this till now and there were 2 things that are apparent to me:
1. Because of all the stories and training and watching people starting from nothing and over the year or years become very successful, I knew that if I ever took action that this was the real deal to making myself successful on the internet.
2. I didn’t quit and still haven’t and I won’t, I will persist until… SUCCESS!!!!
But Why Hasn’t This Been Lighting In A Bottle For Me?
I can see, hear and feel tons of people who are reading this asking, “why hasn’t (Blank) that I’ve been doing for (X amount of time) been lighting in a bottle for me either?”
After years of wondering, questioning, finger pointing, excuses, procrastination, fear, anger, depression, anxiety, pondering, coaching and blaming my family especially my parent’s because they didn’t give me the tools that a parent should give their child to succeed in life I’ve only come to this conclusion that I truly believe is the reason. I’ve just been getting in my own way and I decided to STOP that and put one foot in front of another and walk. I know that Sir Edmund Hillary had to walk one foot in front of the other, one step at a time to get to the top of Mount Everest.
Now that being said, I do believe heavily in training/coaching/mentoring and in self-improvement and self-help and PMA and all those fun things and I’ve done quite a bit of personal development in my years and some has helped and some has not but I’ve never quit and I won’t ever quit, I’ll keep walking forward one step at a time until… SUCCESS
The most important thing that I’ve also noticed is that once a person has made a decision to do (Blank) to move themselves towards a larger life. Lots of things can, and for me, do show up daily to derail all of my good intentions to move towards working from a laptop and an internet connection and the worse part is that these things are sometimes invisible and I never see them coming so daily I find myself working on the one word that makes all success reality. PERSISTANCE!
So Why Do I Want Me And You To Be Wildly Successful?
The answer to that question has come mainly from the job that I want to kick to the curb. For myself I have felt the mundane daily routine of the job and I have felt that I’m wasting my life away doing the job. This is a very troubling thought because we only have so much time and trading time for dollars seems incredibly illogical plus I talk and watch all my fellow employees and they aren’t happy either but a lot of them feel resigned to this being their fate and that just leaves me feeling troubled because I know that there is a way out of the matrix. Now I know there are a lot of people reading this and thinking to themselves “yep that’s me!” So I know I’m not alone.
I want you to be wildly successful because I watch so many people come in and out of the convenience store with this look of total resignation concerning their life and the possibilities for its improvement. And trust me after doing this for 14 years, I’ve seen a lot of people come past my register and into the store. During these years I’ve heard a lot of stories from people concerning their life and the dissatisfaction of their present life that they are currently living and once again this leaves me feeling troubled because I also know that they want a way out of the matrix too. And just maybe, you’re one of those people to.
